The Power of PrayerНамуна
Day 2: What Prayer?
Although we know that God is with us in every moment, we should create a special time to be with him. Prayer is a date with God, It is to merge with him, it is to draw near to him so that he would draw near to us, like the apostle James says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8). The wonderful invitation of God says, “Come to me and I will go to you.” I will be one who sets the pace of relationship with God: If I take a step, he will take a step; if I run, he will run.
We can also say that to pray is to surrender. To prayer is to know what to do with the things that overcome me: not to allow myself to wallow in the situations that I must live through; to quit fighting with my own strength; to declare my own lack of power and the sufficiency of God. It is to express my trust in him.
Prayer is an opportunity to get all of the problems out. All that goes in must come out in some way, so I must learn to present in prayer all of the things that happen to me. We all need to share our experiences; to speak is a need of every human being. When I present the problem, I see it and am able to measure its true size. In this I discover that it wasn’t so big, and I experience a great sense of relief. To pray is to know that I am in the best hands, it is to quit fighting with my strenght, it is to die to myself so that it would be him in me.
Lastly we can say that prayer is to knock. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells a parable about someone who goes to a friend’s house to ask for bread and doesn’t stop knocking until they open the door. It is the picture of someone who must go out to find what they do not have, how they must knock and insist. The door will be opened for their insistence. To pray is to knock on heaven’s door, manifesting our eternal decision to wait on God until he opens the door for us; it is to be in the door of the grace and mercy of God.
Every time that you pray you will renew your encounter with God, many doors that were closed will open and many things that were locked will be unlocked.
