Seeking His Presence

DAY 5 OF 7

Today we are going to look at another key part of the scripture in Jeremiah 29:12-14. God makes another promise, on top of being a loving Father who hears. He promises that He will be found.

"when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord.."

God doesn't say "I might be found by you" or "If you try hard enough or do enough good things, then you will find me". God's not waiting or looking for perfection or someone who does everything right to reveal Himself too. He promises He will be found, and the only prerequisite is to have a heart that is hungry. He reveals Himself to people who seek Him with all of their heart, meaning those who desire God above everything else.

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says "Blessed are those who Hunger and Thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

How do we know if we desire God above everything else? What does it look like to hunger and thirst for Him?

Often our greatest desires occupy our eyes and our energy. When something occupies our eyes, everything we do is in light of that goal. It's the direction we are walking in because that's where we are looking. Similarly, we spend our energy and invest what we have into the pursuit of the thing that occupies our eyes. So maybe we say we desire God above everything else, but our eyes and energy are occupied by our bank balance or our relationship with that person. Neither of these are bad things, but they aren't supposed to be our chief desire.

You don't have to be perfect or tick all the religious boxes to seek and encounter the presence of God. You just have to seek Him out of a wholehearted desire for Him.

TODAY'S REFLECTION

God promises that when we seek Him with our whole heart, we will encounter Him. As we continue the journey of seeking His presence, one important question we need to ask ourselves is, is God my greatest desire? Does Jesus occupy my eyes and my energy?

If not, why don't you ask the Holy Spirit right now to remove whatever it is that is occupying those spaces and ask Him to create in your heart a desire for Himself above everything else.
