Love God Greatly: RisenНамуна
Before they entered the land of Canaan, God commanded the Israelites to give Him the firstfruits of their crops each year (Deuteronomy 26:1-11). The Israelites were to give God the very first harvest as a sacrifice to Him. It was a sacrifice of faith, a way of believing that God would continue to provide what they needed. By giving God the firstfruits of their harvest, the Israelites trusted God for more harvest to follow.
Christ is the firstfruits of the resurrection. He is the first to be resurrected from the dead. As the Israelites believed that God would continue to provide a harvest, we can believe that God will continue in His work of resurrection. We have earned and inherited death through Adam, but in Christ, we are resurrected and made alive.
Lord God, I praise You for Your faithfulness. In the same way that You were faithful to provide for the Israelites when they gave the firstfruits of their crops to You, You will be faithful to resurrect Your people from the dead. Thank You for sending Christ to be the firstfruits of the resurrection for me. Amen.
