DAY 35 OF 50

How Will You Measure Success?

I know you well—you are neither hot nor cold; I wish you were one or the other! Revelation 3:15 TLB

If you are going to receive the commendation, “well done, thou good and faithful servant,” you have to get clarity about how God will measure your success as a business leader. If you choose the wrong metric, you and the rest of the world might consider you to be a success but be sorely disappointed when you hear the verdict of God.

Apparently the Church referred to in the Bible passage had chosen the metric of financial wealth as the measure of success for their mission. God, however, had other ideas; His opinion was damning: “You say, 'I am rich, with everything I want; I don't need a thing!' And you don't realize that spiritually you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.” (Revelation 3:17 TLB)

What metric will you use to measure the success of your brand? There are, of course, many dimensions of performance to consider, but what will be the most important metric? Which single thing must you achieve failing which all other 'successes' will be pointless?

In the end, the entire point of building, and pushing a brand must be about achieving the mission of the business. God wants you to be quite definite about this. Also, He doesn't want you to waste your time building a company that is just so-so. To paraphrase Him, “be hot, or be cold, or don't bother.” Blandness is simply not acceptable.

Everywhere Jesus went, He astonished people; they couldn't reconcile a local carpenter with the wisdom that He demonstrated (Mark 6:1-3). It is with the same astonishment that the world ought to view us; “... this precious treasure—this light and power that now shine within us - is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own.” (2 Corinthians 4:7 TLB)
