Finding True Purpose

DAY 3 OF 6

Day 3 - Is there really meaning in life?

Once we trust that God desires fellowship with us for His glory, we then recognize that part of our purpose is to also see life on this earth in proper perspective. Unlike those whose focus is on this life, King David looked for His satisfaction in the time to come with God. To David, full satisfaction would come on the day when he awoke (in the next life) both beholding God's face (fellowship with Him) and being like Him.

In the Psalms we see Asaph. He talks about how he was tempted to envy the wicked who seemed to have no cares and built their fortunes upon the backs of those they took advantage of, but then he considered their ultimate end. In contrast to what they sought after, he recognized what mattered most to him. "Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you".  This shows us how a relationship with God matters above all else in life. Without that relationship, life has no real purpose.

The apostle Paul talked about all he had achieved in his life and how highly he was thought of before meeting the risen Christ. He concluded that all of it was like a pile of garbage compared to the excellence of knowing Christ Jesus. Paul said that he wants nothing more than to know Christ and “be found in Him,” to have His righteousness and to live by faith in Him, even if it meant suffering and dying. Paul’s purpose was knowing Christ, having a righteousness obtained through faith in Him, and living in fellowship with Him. The cost of those things was irrelevant.

Father God, may I remember what really matters and start each day with thanks for who you are and how you love me. Amen.

About this Plan

Finding True Purpose

At some point we all ask questions about why we were created, what are we supposed to do and what does God want from us. The world usually tries to answer these questions very differently than scripture. God loves you and made you for a very specific reason. Over the next six days learn how to live the abundant life God desires.
