Famous In Heaven And At HomeНамуна
Wool and flax were two key ingredients for meeting basic household needs during the time this was written. Today, this might say, “She finds matches for socks and fights long lines at the grocery store dangerously close to her toddler’s naptime.”
Bottom line: she prioritizes meeting the needs of her household.
But it’s really the second part of this verse that matters even more. It’s not really about her actions as much as it is about her attitude in completing the task.
She works with her hands in delight. More than a duty, serving her family is a delight.
The real question: What’s your attitude like when you’re required to do mundane tasks?
You know what I mean: cooking dinner, cleaning up toys for the hundredth time, scrubbing toilets, driving to and from every place your child needs to go.
Do you delight in those things? If not, that’s an attitude adjustment that can be fixed…with a little dose of intentionality.
My mom used to pray for us while she folded laundry. Sometimes, we could even hear her. I’d peek around the corner, seeing her folding a pair of my socks, and I’d hear her praying for me. If I remember it all these years later, I know I was impressed then, but now that I’m in a similar season, I’m in awe.
It wasn’t something my mom did for show. No one was around, and I’m sure she didn’t think I was listening or paying attention. She was just serving her family out of the overflow of her character: a woman who had chosen a delight over duty mindset.
I want my family to know that I believe it is a delight, not a drag, to serve them.
God, show us areas where we have opportunities for joy. Give us Your eyes to see things that we would miss on our own. Go before us. Use us as an example of what a joyful and humble servant looks like to those inside our homes. Correct us when our attitudes are less than this instructs, give us the humility to apologize to those we displayed poor attitudes to, and give us an opportunity again to show a character that reflects You to our families quickly. Thank you for Your power that works for us, in us, and through us. We love you so much. Amen.

About this Plan
Proverbs 31 is often mistaken as an unattainable job description when it's actually a character description of a woman of God's standard. Rather than seeking something worthy to do, this seven-day devotional helps us dig into this well-known passage in a new way: to passionately pursue who God purposely created us to be.
