DAY 2 OF 7

GUARDED AND SECURE

It is common for us to check the main door of our house every night before we sleep or before we are going out, to ensure that it is locked for the sake of security. Nowadays, we also can use security alarms or cameras, ranging from a simple, cheap device to the most sophisticated and expensive.

God guarded Israel, gave them peace, and appointed judges to rule after they occupied the Promised Land. The criteria God set to choose and appoint judges was very unique. Often, God chose someone, who by human standards, may not have seemed capable. But that is God’s way, so that man shall not rely on his own strength and might, but realize that God is our defender and guard.

What can make us feel secure and safe? King Solomon was a successful king in his time. He had everything: wisdom, wealth, wives, power. But Solomon said that everything was meaningless and could not satisfy his utmost desires. In the book of Psalms, David said that his soul rested quietly when it looked to God. When the storm came and hit the boat the disciples were on, they became fearful. But Jesus, who was in the boat with them, rebuked and calmed the storm. Let us keep the word of God in our life. It is the Lord who will guard and keep us safe.

David knew that only in God would his soul find rest and security.
