Isaiah: God's Vision for Our Hearts

DAY 6 OF 6

The Woe of Misguidance

The sixth and final woe of Isaiah 5 is the woe of misguidance, and it may be the most harmful. Perhaps that’s why it’s the sixth and final woe! These verses illustrate a person who is drunk on power and wields it to misguide the innocent. They deliberately use their position to influence others or lead them away from God. These evil people are manipulative.

The second part of these verses discuss bribes. The misguiding sinner may bribe others to do evil, thus bringing others to sin. These practices might be difficult for some of us to imagine because to take advantage of the innocent is a terrible thing.

Christians, we need to make sure we step up and protect those around us from people in authority who use their position for evil. As we must look over others, we must also remember that God looks out for us. He is always ready and willing to help and defend us. He is a loving God and never uses his ultimate authority to punish or bring us hardships but to bless us.

Beloved, looking at these woes the past few days has been sobering. This world is full of people who want to do harm to others. We, ourselves, sin at times and do harm. How amazing it is that God is always by our side. We can go to him in prayer and read his truth. May we learn from these woes from Isaiah and be thankful for our God, as he is always teaching and guiding us in righteousness.

Lord, thank you for who you are. Thank you for letting us learn from these woes in Isaiah. Thank you for your goodness and ultimate authority and truth. We are so grateful that you help us and teach us in your gentle way. Please let us always be learning and turning to you for everything. Help us stay away from the sins we have learned and instead run toward you and your truth.
