God With Us

DAY 2 OF 7

Wonderful Counselor

In Isaiah, Jesus is referred to as our Wonderful Counselor, and throughout the New Testament we see His ministry support this. Jesus didn’t just offer hope and healing in societally-approved places, like synagogues. He took His ministry to the streets and sought out the lost, the hurting, and the broken, especially those cast aside by society. What a blessing we have in a Wonderful Counselor who meets us right where we are.

We’re also reminded that Jesus was tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin. Knowing the pain and the scorn to come, God became human, choosing to experience every aspect of life for Himself. In Jesus, we not only have someone who can empathize with our struggles, but someone who’s always ready and willing to walk through them with us.

But just as seeking wise counsel from a mentor or friend takes a level of honesty and humility, God requires that we get honest and humble ourselves as we give our burdens to Jesus. When we do, we’ll get much more than good advice—we’ll experience growth, healing, and victory that can only be found in Him.

As we celebrate Christmas, let’s remember that we don’t have to face life alone. Spend time connecting and getting honest with Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor. Seek Him in God’s Word and rest assured that He is faithful and will draw near to you. In Him you will find wisdom, discernment, and revelation—there’s no answer that can’t be found in Jesus!

Prayer: Jesus, thank You so much for coming to earth and facing every temptation so that You can relate to what I’m facing. I am so grateful that I can come to You with anything. Thank You for creating and caring for my soul. Help me to lay down everything before You, and to trust You as You walk with me through any situation. Thank You for being my Wonderful Counselor.

About this Plan

God With Us

Christmas is a time of great joy, signaling the birth of Jesus, our Savior. There are many prophecies throughout the Bible of the coming of Jesus, and through this devotional, we’ll take a look at seven of the names God uses in Scripture to announce His coming. We’ll explore how Jesus embodies each of these names and is just as relevant for us today as when He walked the earth.
