Wisdom from the Vineyard by Beth Moore

DAY 7 OF 7

There are some mysteries in viticulture that can’t be fully satisfied scientifically. They are simply meant to be appreciated. The finest vinedressers in Tuscany could plant a vine in a perfect spot, but they can’t make the soil comply. They could choose the right climate, but they can’t control the weather. They could strive for consistency in water and fertilizer, but they can’t force the vine to produce the same wine produced by its neighbor tied to the next trellis. The mysteries of viticulture can be studied, but they can’t all be solved.

It’s not so different from the life of faith. As much as we’d like a formula to guarantee how our lives will turn out, we find ourselves long on mystery and short on control. Instead of a formula, God gives us an invitation, a relationship. We can’t control Him; we always predict Him. But one thing we can do: trust Him. And then lean into the mystery.

Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant.
If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.
Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
Ecclesiastes 11:4-5, nlt

There are some mysteries that can’t be fully satisfied by reason and logic.
