When you follow Jesus, others notice
What’s the last movie you couldn’t wait to tell a friend about?
When we love something, we share it with others. You see this all the time. If you scroll through Instagram later today, you’ll see friends raving about shoes, workout plans, and restaurants they love.
When something is really awesome, we share it with everyone! If a movie that entertained you for a couple hours is worth sharing, isn’t the guy who changed your life worth sharing?
Jesus’ gift of salvation isn’t meant to be kept to yourself.
Yes, telling others about Jesus sounds intimidating. When we think about sharing our faith, we think about the pastor preaching on Sunday, the evangelist on TV, or the missionary living in another country.
While those people are telling others about Jesus, it’s not their job alone. You are the light of the world. You have access to people the pastor, the evangelist, and the missionary may never meet.
God has gifted each of us differently. He has put you where you are for a reason. When you smile at the new kid at school, listen to a friend who is having a hard time, or stand up for the student everyone is making fun of, you are reflecting Jesus’ compassion, mercy, encouragement, or strength.
You don’t have to go to seminary or shout on a street corner to tell other people about Jesus. As Jesus’ love changes you from the inside out, you can’t help telling others about the guy who’s changing your life.
The change in you will draw others to Jesus the same way your movie recommendation draws people to the theater. They’ll see your good deeds and praise to your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
Reflect:
- How is your life different since you started following Jesus?
- Do you feel ready to give a reason for you hope? Why or why not?
- How would you describe what Jesus has done for you? Take a few minutes to write down why you follow Jesus and the difference He’s made in your life. Then, ask the Holy Spirit to give you an opportunity to share that story with someone in your life.
