Love God Greatly: Beatitudes

DAY 17 OF 41

God loves feeding people bread. The Israelites received manna in the wilderness, Jesus fed crowds of people with fish and bread, and in this moment of conflict, Jesus declares: I am the bread of life. More than any specific meal, God provides for His people spiritually and physically. Lest we think that God doesn't care about our bodies and our stomachs, God repeatedly displays His power of provision by giving people bread in miraculous ways: from the sky or by multiplying loaves.

Yet Jesus also knows we need more than literal bread to fill our stomachs. He is the bread of life because He will satisfy our greatest hunger: for life! We are dead people in a desolate world, desperate for flourishing and a life that we cannot create for ourselves, no matter how hard we try. Jesus' promise is not just to give us food but to give us life.

Thank You, God, that You provide for Your people! I ask You, Lord, for my daily bread as well as the life that You promise to those who follow You. Help me seek You as the source of all of my provision.

About this Plan

Love God Greatly: Beatitudes

The Beatitudes offer great insight into how to live the Christian life. They offer comfort for the oppressed, wisdom for the innocent, and hope for the weary. The Beatitudes continue to offer comfort, wisdom and hope to followers of Christ. We can glean truth from the words Jesus spoke 2,000 years ago as we seek to understand how to live our lives in light of the coming Kingdom of God.
