In My FeelingsНамуна
DAY 2 - Managing My Insecurity
Insecurity shows itself in a variety of ways.
It can be shown as pride.
It can be shown as retreating.
It can be shown as doubt.
All roads lead to the belief we feel like we are not enough.
However we can choose how we decide to shape & mould them.
I have had many insecurities. One of which would show itself in pride.
At University, I would love when someone would ask me what I studied. Because it helped me feed my insecurity. I loved telling people, because I wanted to see what their faces would say. It was prideful & it was ugly.
Insecurity attempts to find security in places where we will never find it, often in people’s perception of us & not our identity in Christ.
Our relationship with Jesus gives us the ultimate security in knowing we are loved, and we don’t need to prove ourselves to find our true identity in Him.
We read today in Genesis 3, when sin entered the world, insecurity also entered the world. We feel like we need to cover ourselves to hide who we really are.
Insecurity is fuelled by comparison.
Inwardly & outwardly we feel like we are not enough.
The truth is, we aren’t.
Jesus is enough.
I want to encourage you today to surrender your insecurity to Jesus.
Insecurity cannot thrive in you, when thankfulness is alive in you.
Allow thankfulness for Jesus & for what He has given you to frame your day today.
My second challenge for you today in managing our insecurities:
Desire those around you to win.
Intentionally encourage someone today who is doing better than you.
But you may ask, “But Rob, what if the person becomes prideful because of it?”
Their pride is between them & God.
This will do something remarkable within you.
Your insecurity is feeling like you are not enough, however this is based on a belief we are using a measurement tool. Jesus never called you to like a life of performance, but a life of grace.
I want to encourage you to not allow comparison & insecurity hold you back from speaking life & being an encouragement to someone today.
Questions:
(1) Write down THREE things you are grateful for today? It can be as simple as the coffee you are drinking.
(2) Who is ONE person you can encourage today that is doing better than you?
Prayer:
Dear God. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for everything you have given me that I often overlook or forget to be grateful for. Thank you for that Jesus is enough for me. Amen.
