[Real Life] Unintended ConsequencesНамуна
The Father’s Love
The last intended consequence that Jesus wants us to experience is the Father’s love and joy. In John chapter 15, Jesus tells us, “As the Father has loved Me, I have loved you. Abide in my love.”
He is NOT saying that you are going to lose your salvation if you do not abide, but that when you abide in Him, you are going to understand just how deep the Father’s love is for you. Jesus wants us to know this so that our joy may be complete. He is such a good Brother to us! Abiding achieves love and joy. We understand and experience the love of the Father and the love that Jesus gives us when we abide.
God wants to bring joy, deep joy into your life. That is the intended consequence of abiding.
If our earthly parents know how to give good gifts, how much more does our Heavenly Father know how to give us good gifts? The intended consequence of abiding in Jesus is that you get to know Him in prayer and glorify Him in fruit. Abiding deeply to achieve greatly. Then we become His disciples and experience His love and His joy so that we can respond:
Christ be with me; Christ in the front; Christ in the back.
Christ within me; Christ below me; Christ above me.
Christ in my right hand; Christ in my left hand.
Christ in the fort; Christ in the chariot at sea;
Christ at the dinner table. Christ at the ball field;
Christ at school; Christ at the office; Christ in my marriage;
Christ in my singlehood; Christ in my friendships; Christ in my church.
The joy of abiding in Jesus! Will you live intentionally or unintentionally? Will you continue to move the couch and break the lamp and accomplish nothing because you didn’t abide? Or will you abide and experience the intended consequences of resting and letting Jesus move through you? The choice is all yours.
Dear God, I want to know You better by living restfully, trusting fully, bearing copiously, and bringing You glory. I trust You to make a disciple of me, as I abide in Your Son. In His name, Amen.

About this Plan
Where is real life found? The Bible tells us that we find it abiding in Christ. In this third devotional plan from the Real Life series, we learn that Jesus wants us to enjoy the abundant life that He purchased for us on the cross by abiding in Him. If we choose not to abide in Christ, we will have the unintended consequence of achieving nothing in our lives.
