Strength in Weakness “The Sovereign Lord is my strength”
God never promises an easy road. In fact, Jesus tells us, “In this world you will have trouble.” (John 16:33)
We live in a fallen world with broken people. Therefore, it’s only natural that our bodies fail us at some point or another.
Habakkuk received really disappointing and life changing news. But you know what? God was right there with him, speaking with him and leading him. He even directly gave Habakkuk words to write on a tablet to explain to the others. God never leaves us hanging. Sometimes He challenges us to mature and lean on Him.
You may have heard the quote, “God will never give you more than you can handle.” But in fact, the exact opposite is true. God gives us more than we can handle so that we are unable to do it alone. He gives us more so that we will turn to Him and ask for help, which He is always more than willing to do. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that God sees us in our suffering. When we are tempted to become embittered or angry, He reminds us we are not alone in our struggle and also promises “a way out so that [we] can endure it.”
Nothing is overlooked by God. What this imperfect world means to harm, God uses for good.
Our shortcomings keep us humble. The overwhelming circumstances. The times of trouble or struggle. The moments when you doubt why and how. Those are the opportunities for God to teach us how to properly navigate through life.
Step back and reexamine your life and your situation. Could God be revealing your body’s fragility so you can better understand His strength? Is your surgery creating a platform for you to persevere through and show your faith in Jesus to those around you? Can your situation be used as a growing and learning time in your life?
Our pain can serve a purpose. The people of Judah’s pain served a purpose – their land was destroyed so that God’s ultimate strength, plan and power would show. God will not only provide a way for us to endure, He will also teach us something through these hard times if we let Him.
Today, ask God what He has to teach you. How can He make you stronger even in your weakness?
