The Church Of The BeginningНамуна
What must I do to be saved?
And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
The Philippian jailer, filled by the Spirit’s conviction after his escape from death, puts the question straight: “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30) Paul doesn’t stutter. His succinct reply is, “Believe in the Lord Jesus.”
That’s it? That’s so simple. Too simple, it seems. It’s not too simple for God. It’s the gospel truth. To be saved from our sin, we believe in the Lord Jesus. We put our faith in the Lord Jesus. We trust the Lord Jesus. That’s it. Just believe. Believe in Jesus. Believe in Jesus as Savior. Believe plus nothing. Faith alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone.
How can you explain to a non-Christian friend how to become a Christian? Simply turn to Acts 16:31 and read it. There is no more straightforward verse on how to be saved. “Believe in the Lord Jesus.” Short and sweet. Oh, so sweet.
