The Lie Of "Not Enough"Намуна
6) The Story of “More than ENOUGH”
There is this Bible story about the need to feed a hungry crowd. It aligns with my feelings of needing to feed my husband, my family or my people with the important things of life, liberty and happiness. As the story goes, there were two fish and five loaves involved, which was not enough to feed the hungry crowd. The question of sufficiency arose! There were doubters in the crowd. I can relate to this story! I didn’t have two fish or five loaves in my lunchbox, but I did only have my personality, my giftings, my family heritage, my past, my strengths and my weaknesses to offer to others.
In the hands of the boy, the lunch would never feed the crowd. But when ALL of his lunch was given to the Multiplier, then, not only was the crowd fed, but there were 12 baskets left over. How can this be? Was it a miracle? Absolutely! The Multiplier multiplies when He has the food and sees the need. The boy had to give Him everything first though.
This story taught me that whenever I keep my gifts, my talents, my strengths under my control and authority, that it will not be enough. However, when I give ALL that I have and ALL that I am to the Giver Himself… He multiplies it to be more than enough. I have the responsibility to give back and yield. He has the responsibility to produce the results. All I have to do is all that I can do, and I have to trust God to do that which I cannot do. Goodness! This is so mind-blowing for my control-freak nature to understand. That is why He said to “lean not on my own understanding…”.
You are not in charge of “feeding the whole crowd of 5000” or whatever your burden seems to be. You are in charge of living a yielded life as you are simply a branch and He is the Vine. This is a hard concept but, certainly, a freeing one. We are to work heartily, as unto the Lord, for sure. But we can trust the results to a faithful, trustworthy Abba Father. Even when we don’t understand.
It is HE that makes you enough! Through His call, His strength, His provision. You were never designed to feed the 5000, the “others” of your life. He designed you with a need for Him to multiply your efforts to be “More than enough” just like the fish and the loaves. Give Him your all so that He can do the multiplying!
Questions to consider:
· Describe your feelings of being overwhelmed or exhausted.
· How do you use your gifts and talents to bless the body of believers?
· Have you given God your everything so that He can multiply?
Life-giving Prayer:
Dear Lord! Please take all of my “lunchbox”, everything that I have. I give everything, every person, every goal, every dream, every load that I have – to You. I trust you to multiply it as I cannot. I trust you, Lord. Thank you that you are trustworthy.
