Unwavering Trust In God - 10-Day DevotionalНамуна
Continue to Trust
Much of life is a progressive journey in which we can't always see around every corner, but God can. We absolutely cannot lose if we'll trust and continue to trust in God's faithfulness to us. Trust is a confident hope, a literal expectation in God's faithfulness. The Bible promises that the God kind of hope will not disappoint.
Hope does not disappoint...Romans 5:5
I am convinced, however, that we can negate the Word and never receive the promise that was intended if we allow disappointment to rob us of our trust and our hope in His faithfulness. Temptations will come, but if we embrace disappointment and become bitter we will miss out, and the Rock will become to us a Rock of stumbling. Here's an example where the temptation was to think the Lord had let us down.
Once, before going full-time into pastoring, my husband appeared to be passed up for a better position that would deliver him from a revolving schedule. It was down to Jack and one other employee for a management position. Jack was better qualified because of his experience but the other applicant got the job. He didn't have several of the qualifications, but we found out he was a drinking buddy of the plant manager. For months, Jack was given temptation to be disappointed. He kept saying, "Lord, I'm trusting You and I refuse to allow myself to get into disappointment, but it is tempting to ask—why?" But soon, a new company came to our city. Jack applied and was one of the first to be hired. It was better pay, a better position and most of all, daytime hours. Three short months later the first company had a layoff and closed a department, the guy who'd been given the position was out walking the streets after seventeen years with the company. Had Jack been given the position at the original company, he'd have been caught in the lay-off and been without work and would have missed out on the position with the new company because of the time overlap.
Pray Out Loud:
Lord, I will put my trust in You. I will continue to trust You. I refuse to get into disappointment. In the name of Jesus. Amen
