Underdog

DAY 3 OF 5

PAUL

One of the factors that could undermine our ability to succeed is our past. Maybe you’ve really messed it up and you’re experiencing the consequences of poor choices in the past. The ghosts from the past are chasing you. They speak loud and they say: “Not you. You’re too dirty to be used by God. You’ve gone too low.”

That’s exactly what happened to Paul. Before knowing Jesus at a personal level, Paul had persecuted Christians. He’d approved of their death. He’d separated families. He’d made it his life purpose to combat Christ followers as best as he could. When He came to know Jesus and accepted His complete forgiveness on the cross, there were still reminders of the things he did in the past that tormented him. But that did not stop him. He embraced God’s grace and moved on.

You may identify with Paul. All of us have parts of our life story we wish we could edit. We wish we could go back and change. And many of us feel disqualified from the christian race. Allow me to remind you something: if you have accepted Christ as your Savior, there is no sin or wrongdoing He has not completely erased or paid for. He’s turned you into a new creature. He’s in the process of fulfilling his purpose in your life and He won’t give up, even if you mess up. You may feel like an underdog because of your past, but God will use your past and your mistakes to minister to other people who are struggling themselves.

About this Plan

Underdog

At some point in our lives, we've all been underdogs. We've felt there's somebody out there more qualified; somebody more knowledgeable, experienced, skillful, or capable. Did you know, however, that feeling unqualified to fulfill your calling in life—as a spouse, leader or follower of Christ—actually puts you in the best position to be used by God? In this 5-day devotional, you'll experience the stories of many underdogs in the Bible.
