OUR WORK AS WORSHIP

DAY 7 OF 13

Our working for the Lord

There are several statements in the Bible which make it clear that every part of our lives should be done as an act of worship to God (1 Corinthians 10:31, Romans 11:1-2). It is good to be reminded that all our speaking and actions - including our work - should be done in the name of Jesus, and in gratitude to God.

While the slave-master relationship in Greco-Roman times was different to the employment relationship in our culture, slaves had even less reason than employees to obey, with reverence, their masters.

It is a challenge for us sometimes, to obey a difficult boss, or work in an organization that has not treated us well; but it is made easier when we see ourselves as working whole-heartedly for the Lord rather than human masters.

What difference does it make thinking of working for the Lord, rather than human bosses?

About this Plan

OUR WORK AS WORSHIP

Work takes up the majority of our waking hours; it is the most significant activity in our lives. This makes sense if we look through Genesis 1–2 and see that work is the first command we receive from God. We were created to work with God in stewarding his creation. In this series we will look at different dimensions of our work in light of God’s word.
