Day 4 - WINNING THE BATTLE WITHIN
Often our primary battle is not one that is being waged around us, but rather within us. Left unchecked, our worries, anxious thoughts, fears and concerns become a defining factor in our lives. The world within us creates the world around us.
Our thought-life is one of the most important battlefields for us to fight the good fight. What we think about has such a massive bearing on how we experience life. Have you ever stop to consider what you think about? What are your first thoughts in the morning? What’s going through your mind when you lie down to sleep at the end of the day? We need to be thinking about our thoughts.
In 2 Corinthians 10:5 the writer urges us to captive every thought captive. In The Passion Translation it says it this way, “we capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the anointed one”. That’s an impacting word-picture! We are in a war – a good fight – and we need to capture our thoughts, then cause them to yield to Jesus. Sometimes we are deceived into assuming that if a thought popped into our head, then it must be true. But without measuring it against God’s truth, we might be deceiving ourselves! Your thoughts must bow down to God’s word.
Does your thought-life line up with how God sees you? Is your mind muddled and full of worry? In a world that seems to celebrate a hectic, busy, consumer lifestyle, yet is riddled with anxiety and stress, we need to decide today to capture those thoughts and put them right. As Romans 12:2 says, we are not conform to the patterns of this world, but instead be transformed by the renewing of your mind. You can do that by speaking out God’s Truth. You can begin to direct your thoughts towards God.
If the world within you is creating the world around you, let’s begin to shape our inner world. Psalm 19:14 says, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer” – begin today by letting the words you say about yourself be pleasing to God. You are more than a conqueror.
Make it personal:
What thoughts do you need to take captive today?
Pray for the peace of God to fill your mind.
Write 5 statements about yourself that align with God’s word and begin each day by saying them out loud.
