Learnable Moments For Moms: Devotions To Discover God In The EverydayНамуна
When it comes to getting dressed, toddlers have their own ideas, and my daughter is as unique as they come. While she still struggles with getting dressed by herself, she is very adept at taking off her clothes and diaper without any help. If I go to change the baby’s diaper or feed her and leave my toddler alone in her room, I never know what I will return to see.
Sometimes she is wearing her rain boots on the wrong feet, upside down sunglasses, a winter hat, and nothing else. Another day she may be wearing her swimming floaties, an apron from her play kitchen, a big bow in her hair, and a pair of my shoes.
“I ready to go,” she’ll announce. Little does she understand that she is far from ready to enter the day without at least a diaper on! While she is all about the unnecessary accessories that make her look pretty, she consistently overlooks the necessary basics.
READ
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:13-17
APPLY
As absurd as we may consider my toddler's outfits, we tend to have the same approach to preparing for the day. We wouldn’t dream of leaving without brushing our teeth, putting on deodorant, and wearing a somewhat coordinated outfit complete with shoes. However, how many times do we walk out the door without putting on the character traits and spiritual protection that we will need to stand firm in our convictions throughout the day? We have an arsenal of weapons and armor to prepare us for the battle that rages around us. The catch is that it only helps us if we have the discipline to put each piece into place.
PRAY
Father, thank you for providing me with everything that I need to overcome the trials and temptations of each day. Help me to develop the discipline needed to take the time to prepare spiritually for the demands of each day.
REFLECT
How can I create a routine to truly prepare my heart and mind for each day?
