JEREMIAH 23:
In yesterday's reading in Jeremiah, we heard how king Zedekiah sent two men to Jeremiah to ask him for help to pray for a miracle. And God made it ever so clear that no miracle of deliverance would be given. Jeremiah repeatedly tells the king what he needs to do, but Zedekiah just couldn’t bring himself to do it. His deficiency in administering justice was especially prominent in yesterday's reading. 

PSALM 149:
We old saints should not despise all of the new songs of the young saints. Yet I totally understand the desire to avoid change.  In Psalm 149 we see that Scripture commands that we sing new songs. And this whole psalm can be taken as a prelude to what we will see in the book of Revelation.

1CORINTHIANS 6:
A few days ago I challenged you to find out what was special about the quote in John 19 about none of Jesus’ bones being broken. In yesterday’s reading in 1Corinthians 5, we heard several metaphors relating to that based on Jesus being our Passover Lamb. And now as we start chapter 6, we have a chapter break at the right place, as Paul starts a new topic.

Dear heavenly Father and our Lord Christ Jesus, recently we have read some very convicting words about living purely and appropriately as Christians. You know, Lord, how the instructions Paul gave us about removing a church member from fellowship have been very hard for our churches to follow. We thank You that we have 2nd Corinthians, where we find out more about this. Few churches can be proud of having no serious sin among the people who attend. So Lord, no matter whether we are part of a church which has attempted to deal with discipline in such matters, or a church which has ignored them, one thing is certain: We have no basis for being proud about how we display the holiness of Christ. Thank You Jesus, for being our perfect Passover Lamb. Your death on the cross has caused the death angel to pass over us, and we have been released from our slavery to sin. Therefore we must throw out the old yeast of sin. Help us to study the principles of godly living that Timothy would have taught the Corinthians, and that Paul taught in all the churches and in all his letters. And now we also confess our own persistent sins to You.
