Read To Me Daily Semester 3

DAY 21 OF 82

2KINGS 3-4:
Yesterday in the first two chapters of 2nd Kings, we heard of the final amazing prophecies of Elijah, and then how he took leave of the prophets and particularly, his successor Elisha. Elisha quickly showed that he was Elijah's successor.

PSALM 124:
Today’s poem is Psalm 124. I keep being amazed how people (and particularly those in America) don’t seem to learn anything from the amazing things that are happening in our times. The last verse of this psalm expresses the lesson that I think we should have learned by now.

JOHN 11a:
Reminding us of what we heard in John 10: Our Shepherd calls us by name. He knows us thoroughly, just like He and the Father know each other. We hear his voice and recognize Him. He goes before us and leads us into a rich and satisfying life. He is our great and good Shepherd because He was willing to sacrifice his life for us.

Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, You were not the Messiah the people wanted. They wanted a Messiah that would control power, rather than a Messiah who loved them so much that he would die for them. They said they wanted You to speak plainly. But the more plainly You spoke, the quicker they picked up stones to kill You. You told them the plain truth when You said, “You will not believe, because you are not my sheep.” Lord, we’re so thankful that you called us to be your sheep. That’s why we believe in You, and that’s why we follow You. Thank You for the tremendous promise, “they (your sheep) shall never die/perish.” Thank You that You hold us so securely, and You are not alone in that. Your Father holds us as well. Your promise is that ‘no one’ can snatch us away from You and your Father. Lord there are many voices that tell us that your words are too good to be true. Satan and his forces, whose mission is to steal, kill and destroy, tell us not to believe these things. But help us by your power to believe every incredibly wonderful promise You tell us in your word.
