Jesus Revealed Pt. 14 - It Is ALL In Jesus!Намуна
The Peace of Jesus
Thoughts on the Passage
Peace in the midst of troubled and anxious times—that is the promise of Jesus. It is the promise of God in the letter to the Philippian believers. To the world, peace means the absence of trouble and danger. It is a result of what happens around us. So when all is at rest, there is peace. Jesus defines peace differently.
Peace is what happens inside us in spite of the situations that we face. His disciples faced a lot of uncertainty. Jesus was leaving. They faced a religious system that was about to kill Jesus (and the disciples would be next on the hit list), and their future was full of uncertainty.
Jesus said He was sending the Holy Spirit to continue to teach the things that Jesus taught. The disciples would be reminded of the things Jesus taught them in various situations. Jesus taught them well and the Holy Spirit would keep it fresh in their minds. Also, He would leave His peace with them. This peace deals with the issues of the heart: fear, anxiety and worry. This peace is present regardless of the situations that happen externally.
Paul teaches us how get this peace and keep it.
To get this peace – rejoice in the Lord, be a people of gentleness, in everything give thanks and pray.
To keep this peace – let your mind focus on things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, worthy of praise. Then God’s peace stays with us.
Finally, Jesus says to the disciples that we can release this peace over homes. If people in the house are willing to let God’s peace take hold, then it will stay. Otherwise, it is removed. So be generous with your declaration of peace over the lives and homes of people.
Application
What in our lives is stealing our peace? Walk through Philippians 4:4-7 to have God restore our peace.
Does our life fluctuate between peace and a troubled heart? Focus our hearts and minds on Philippians 4:8-9.
Time to Pray
Father, today I am dealing with a difficult situation. I want to see Your peace rule in my life as I deal with this situation, so I will rejoice, be thankful, bless, and pray. I want to release peace in the life of others as well. It is easy to wish bad things on people who cause trouble and problems. That is not for me to decide. My decision is to ask for Your peace… You take away the peace if they refuse to be people of peace. For me today, give me a thankful heart for all that I face – and to just let Your peace reign in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
About this Plan
One Size Fits All? Does it really? How can we find all of life’s answers in ONE place, let alone ONE PERSON? In Plan 14 we see Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit ARE one. They do not override each other. They do not jostle and try to take each other’s place. Together they are EVERYTHING that we need in this life and beyond.
