Remembering With God

DAY 1 OF 7

Remembering Jesus' Invitation

In her book Making Room, Christine Pohl says that “hospitality involves some space into which people are welcomed, a place where unless the invitation is given, the stranger would not feel free to enter.”

Jesus revealed the hospitality of God to the world.

Jesus says, “Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise” (John 5:19). Discovering this, we collect a memory that reveals the nature of God through the hospitality of Jesus. God, in fact, has a wide and open table. In other words, Jesus is the host, and hospitality requires the host to be present

We are invited into the presence of our host.

Jesus formed memories, stories, and scripts by inviting people to a table.

Think about a time when you felt a strong sense of Jesus inviting you to something—a new ministry, a relationship, or a new way of thinking about the world. How was—or how is—Jesus present with you as you take up that invitation? What would it be like to actively pursue Jesus’ invitation today?

About this Plan

Remembering With God

Every action and decision is generated by our memories, so our memories make us who we are. But if that’s the case, what does God have to do with both the blessed and broken memories we carry with us every day? Casey Tygrett challenges us to examine our memories—good and bad—and recognize the ways God is using those memories to bring about spiritual transformation in our lives.
