Jesus Revealed Pt. 8 - What Do You See?Намуна
Rejecting Jesus - dying in our sins
Thoughts on the Passage
This passage takes some understanding of the mindset of the people. They knew that God would provide a way for their sins to be forgiven. They would offer a lamb as sacrifice – not that the lamb produced forgiveness, but it showed them that God would provide a way for forgiveness. The cost of this forgiveness? Something (Someone) had to die so we could receive forgiveness.
Jesus tells them He is going away, and they will die in their sins because they do not believe in Him. He is telling them that He is the Someone who will die and pay for their sins. They struggle in understanding this. They just cannot imagine that Jesus is the One whom God has sent to save them. They look at Jesus – through physical eyes – and they cannot get past what they see.
Finally, Jesus says this – you will understand what I am saying when you kill me! When you are the ones who kill the Lamb of God, then you will understand what Jesus is saying. What a terrible way to understand – after we have done such a terrible thing. Jesus is letting them know that understanding will come but it will result in a lot of shame.
Application
There will be a time when we refuse to listen or receive what God is saying – and we find out the hard way. We do something terrible and we come face to face with our failure and rebellion. It will be tough moment. It happens to all of us. However, we need to:
– know that God still loves us.
– know that Jesus will show us His heart for us.
– know that Jesus paid the price for our failures.
– know that you will never want to do that again!
Time to Pray
Father, it is hard to think spiritually. It is hard to get past a lot of the things we face in this life to see everything through Your eyes. I know that I have had these moments as well – and I never want to have them again! I never want to go through the shame and pain that comes with understanding too late what I have done. Still, I ask that You give us the strength to admit our failure, knowing that You forgive regardless. I pray for eyes to see, a heart to believe and a willingness to follow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan
There are different types of “seeing”. There is physical sight where we look at things and identify them; there is the “seeing” where we walk into a chaotic situation and someone says, “Do you see what’s going on here?” And from what we see we describe the scene as “chaos”. There is another level of “seeing” and Part 8 touches on this type – spiritual sight. What do you see?
