DAY 5 OF 5

Daniel didn’t hide the fact that he followed God. Everyone knew it. Not only did he live a life that honored God and stay true to his convictions, but he talked about God often. Even after coming from the lion’s den, Daniel felt the need to tell everyone that it was God who saved him.  You would think surviving an overnight stay in a lion’s den would speak for itself, but Daniel knew that actions don’t always speak louder than words.

Too many followers of Jesus are afraid to go public with their faith. Maybe you’ve found yourself in this place - you don’t mind talking about Jesus when you’re at church or with your family, but when you go to school or practice or work, things change. If anyone brings up the topic of faith, you keep quiet or get weird.  Or maybe you put on a “Jesus-y” front at church, but when you’re with your friends, what you say and how you act completely changes. Jesus didn’t call you to just follow him in the comfort of our homes or churches. He called you to be “salt and light” in this world. This cannot happen if you keep your faith to yourself.

What is it that causes you to keep your faith to yourself? Fear of saying the wrong thing? Fear of being judged? Fear of what others may think? Fear of not fitting in? Push past those fears this week and live boldly. You have the opportunity to share the hope that Jesus provides to a world that often feels hopeless.

About this Plan

Bolder

Over the next five days, we’ll take a look at the book of Daniel. Daniel found himself living in a land that didn’t share his same values or beliefs - not unlike the place we find ourselves in today. Despite this, Daniel was able to remain bold and live out his faith, knowing it was the unpopular and unsafe decision. What can we learn from Daniel on how to live bolder?
