NOAH: A 5-Day Devotional

DAY 5 OF 5

Watch today’s clip where Noah and his family realize the rain has stopped and their new lives are about to begin.

God had kept Noah, his family, and all the animals safe in the boat as the floodwaters raged over the entire earth. But the time that He had ordained finally arrived for new life to begin and for all those inside the ark to enter their promised home. So the rain stopped, great winds caused the water to recede, and dried out the ground to prepare for food to be grown once again. God directed the water to rest in only the places where it would now gather for mankind’s benefit.

When Noah and his family were able to come out of the ark and step onto land, he designated some animals to sacrifice as an offering to God. Scholars tell us this was not a sin offering or thank offering, but rather one to ask for the Father’s blessing upon their new lives.

God responded to Noah’s obedience by promising to never destroy His creation again and even repeated some of His original blessing and command given to Adam and Eve. He gave Noah’s family stewardship of all creation and the freedom to repopulate the planet. New life and a fresh beginning had begun between God and His children.

Even in that moment, the Father knew there would be only one more sacrifice and death in all of history to deal with sin once and for all—that of His Son, Jesus Christ. The problem of sin separating mankind from God would be taken care of by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. He would pay the final debt of humanity’s disobedience and His resurrection would provide a bridge of redemption to a relationship with the Father.

In Matthew 24 and Luke 17, Jesus connected Himself to the story of Noah and used his account as the example for how it will be on the day of His Second Coming. Just like the day the door of the ark was closed, so it will be on the day He returns. But this time, the skies will not be filled with rain, but the glory of Christ coming for His people. The earth will not bring forth more water, but those who have chosen to receive God’s offer of salvation.

May the story of Noah remind us that, while the days in which we live are also evil, we have the freedom to follow God. His ways will always provide the best path in life.
