What Courage Looks Like

DAY 5 OF 7

When will you stand up for what’s right?

Yesterday, we learned the epic story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s extraordinary bravery. But how did they have that much courage? Check out today’s video about that:

Their courage didn’t happen overnight. You don’t catch courage like a cold—just waiting for it to show up and hit you all of a sudden. It takes time to develop. It takes making a lot of small, right choices leading up to the big choices. It takes knowing what you believe in so much that you can’t help but stand up for it.

See, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were from a totally different place than Nebuchadnezzar. They were taken from their families and their homes, and they were just teenagers at the time! Then, they got their names changed. And the food offered to them wasn’t what they were allowed to eat. They could have caved. Given in. Gone with what everyone else was doing.

But they didn’t. They stood their ground and held to their standard. They didn’t eat the king’s food. And they actually were healthier because of it! They didn’t go against what their parents had taught them—even when their parents weren’t there. Even when they were away from what was comfortable, they chose to do what was courageous.

So, what kind of faith do you have? Is it built to last? Are you so confident in what you believe about God that you would be able to stand firm no matter where you were or who was with you?

To build a faith that lasts, you need your own faith. You can’t just take your parents’ words for it. You have to know what you believe and why you believe it so that you can have the courage to stand up for it.

So, do what’s right today, and then you’ll be able to do it tomorrow. Decide when you’ll stand up for what’s right. Because courage is about making the next right choice—even when it’s hard or unpopular.

About this Plan

What Courage Looks Like

You may feel like you don’t have what it takes to be courageous, but what if courage looks different than you think? Courage isn’t always taking huge leaps of faith—it starts with taking baby steps into the unknown. Through this 7-day Bible Plan featuring videos from The Loop Show, we’ll take a look at what courage really is and why we can have courage through Christ.
