Nothing Else: Only Jesus

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5 – Nothing Else (I Just Want You)

The song, Nothing Else, begins with these lyrics…

I’m caught up in Your presence

I just want to sit here at Your feet

I’m caught up in this holy moment

I never want to leave

There’s just something so powerful about coming before God like that. And in Luke 10:38-42 (NLT), there’s a story that reveals why…

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

The circumstances, situations, and “to-do’s” of life can be so easy to get caught up in. I know for me, as a husband, father, friend, and a traveling artist, it’s sometimes a daily thing to check the posture of my heart and ask myself, “What do I want right now? Am I running around and doing all of these things because I’m afraid if I don’t, I won’t be fulfilled, and Jesus won’t be pleased?”

That’s where Martha was. Her intentions were for the good of those around her, but the attention of her heart was still missing the one thing that really mattered and that was living from a place of rest in her relationship with God like Mary.

And I just love how sweetly Jesus speaks to her. He could have rebuked her for her attitude, but He was gracious. He was kind. And remember, it’s the kindness of God that leads us to repentance (see Romans 2:4).

So, ask yourself today, “What do I want?” Because there is nothing else that can satisfy, uplift, encourage, and strengthen you like Jesus. And as you repent, as you direct the posture of your heart towards everything He is, I believe you're going to experience His joy and freedom in amazing ways.
