If God Is For Us: Seven Days Of Celebrating The Power Of God’s Grace

DAY 6 OF 7

EVERLASTING LOVE

Everything that we have been learning has been wrapped up in this divine love. Every act of God is motivated by His love for us. God’s love is the surety of His staying power—His love is everlasting.

But there are times when we doubt God’s love for us. So Paul asks a series of pointed questions to assure us just how faithful this love is. Can any of these things separate us from the love of Christ?

· Tribulation or distress or persecution? Jesus says to us, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). In our troubles and trials, we can have peace because we know that God is with us. We know that He is for us and that Jesus gives us His peace.

· Famine or nakedness? Jesus says, “If God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you . . . ?” (Matt. 6:30). God provides for all our needs. He doesn’t promise us riches, but He does promise to take care of us. Neither famine nor poverty can separate us from the love of Christ.

· Danger or sword? A martyr might ask before dying, “Where are you, Lord?”

But the Lord will surely answer, “Right here.” Jesus tells of His everlasting love through danger or sword in Matthew 10:28-33.

It is in answering these questions with Jesus’ own words that we come to fully understand the victory cry, “We are more than conquerors.” How are we conquerors? “Through him who loved us” (v. 37). We are not conquerors because of our will to succeed. We are not conquerors because of our strength. We are not even conquerors because we have faith. We are conquerors because of God’s love for us.
