Am I Enough: Embracing The Truth About Who You AreНамуна
Lie #4: When You Don’t Look “Presentable,” Hide
I was tired of striving to please the world, yet addicted to trying. It’s difficult to be a girl. We grow up thinking we are princesses until we learn the painful lesson that we aren’t the prettiest girl in the world, the smartest person in our grade, and not everyone wants to be our friend. Soon enough, we’re hiding underneath a hat, avoiding the world because we don’t feel “enough.” We wrestle with insecurity and wind up asking ourselves, “Am I enough?” On days like that, we need to get out from under our cap, forget about what we look like, look up, and say “hello” to God.
God did not create you to hide on days you don’t feel adequate. God called you to a life of love and service, to live in a way that points to Him. When I’m worrying about my appearance, I can miss an opportunity to shine for Him. Be bold and confident. Don’t listen to the lie, but walk with the truth that even on a bad hair day, God can use you.
It is easy to be influenced by the significance the world places on looks. Being hot is the wrong objective. Rather, focus on being eager to be who God created you to be. Experience life, learn from building relationships with different kinds of people. Use your body for God’s purpose and enjoy the salvation He offers you. Fight your insecurities and the lies the enemy tells you. Acquire wisdom and teach what you learn to others. Learn from others who have walked the path ahead of you, and from your Lord. Be confident in the worth your Creator has given you. Wake up knowing the Lord has blessed you with a great purpose. Be a friend, investing your life in people. Persevere through your battles and have a servant’s heart, giving to others. Be completely dependent on God, recognizing your need for Him. Keep a sense of humor about life, and leave the world a better place by reflecting God to those around you. Most of all, dance with God—follow His lead and take His hands to where He wants you to go with Him.
I’m learning to slow down and enjoy this journey called life—to make sure to savor the everyday moments that too often pass by unnoticed. God has our futures planned so we can stop worrying about our plans. Seriously, do we not trust the Author of this life to write our stories? Focus on the present—the here and now—exalting God and drawing close to the Son. If you get so preoccupied with the end of the road and forget to pray along the way, you miss out on savoring where God currently has you. Life may not be going the way you want. Perhaps you want to rush through this stage of your life to get to what you hope will be better days. God wants to use you right where you are.

How does a person who is insecure experience day-to-day life differently from a person who is genuinely bold and confident?
Where is your focus when you feel insecure? How does hiding affect sharing your story of God’s love for you with others?
How can watching for God’s presence in your everyday life help you share Him with others? How does praying along the way help you do this?
