Day One - Back To Life
Let’s look at Ezekiel 37 before we move forward with the devotional.
"And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.” -Ezekiel 37:3 (ESV)
In this passage of scripture Ezekiel is taken up in the Spirit and God shows him a valley full of dry bones and they begin a conversation about the potential of these bones, which lay dormant.
Ezekiel recognised that only God knew the potential of these dry human bones, because looking at it from a human perspective, it didn’t look hopeful. So it was only God who could determine the outcome of that which seemed dead and hopeless.
Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! - Ezekiel 37:4 (NASB)
God instructed Ezekiel to speak over the bones and Ezekiel began to speak by the direction and the words of the Lord—over these bones—so that they would be made alive.
As he spoke he began to hear noises and saw the bones come together, piece by piece. He saw the flesh form and the skin begin to cover the flesh. He saw fully formed bodies from what were once dry, lifeless bones. But God wasn’t finished yet.
He then instructed Ezekiel to speak breath into those lifeless bodies. I can just imagine the heart beginning to beat slowly, at Ezekiel’s command, and eventually picking up speed and rhythm, and beginning to pump blood through each part of the bodies so that they were made alive. Before Ezekiel knew it, he was looking at an army of people who were once dead.
Through this, God was showing Ezekiel a picture of the nation of Israel and their metaphoric state. They felt dead and broken, they’d lost hope and felt defeated. Yet God was showing him that by the power of His Spirit and by His word He was able to bring them back to life.
As Ezekiel obeyed the instruction of The Lord, and echoed His words, God was able to use him to restore them to their former state—the state that God had intended from the beginning of time—to His initial vision of them before their sin and the mistreatment.
That’s exactly what God desires to do with you. He wants to restore you back to His initial vision of you, before the abuse, rejection, loss, judgement, broken relationships, failures, mistakes or hardships. He desires those gifts, dreams, and visions on the inside of you to be reawakened.
As you begin to consume the word of God and speak it over your life, you will begin to experience a revival and see that which had been in ruins, become restored.
You have the power to change the trajectory of your life, through your obedience and submission to The Word.
