Harvesting The Abundant LifeНамуна
We Harvest What We Sow
Yeshua (Jesus) said He came to give us abundant life (John 10:10). Those of us who have placed our faith in Him as the Messiah have already received this abundant life, but we sometimes have a hard time experiencing it. Why? Scripture tells us that, though we now have the Spirit of God living in us, our “old man” remains (Romans 7). Until we experience the world to come, our earthly lives will include a battle to live by the Spirit and not from the flesh. Many a teacher has noted that the one who thrives in us is the one we feed.
The Bible puts it another way: “Do not be deceived – God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also shall reap” (Galatians 6:7). If we want to enjoy a bountiful harvest of the abundant life God has bestowed on us, we must invest in it. The apostle Paul goes on: “For the one who sows in the flesh will reap corruption from the flesh. But the one who sows in the Ruach [(ROO-akh), Spirit] will reap from the Ruach eternal life” (Galatians 6:8).
The moment we trusted in Yeshua for our salvation, we gained eternal life. And as we seek the Lord, we are initiating the life of the Spirit day by day. We recognize that “the mindset of the flesh is death, but the mindset of the Ruach is life and shalom” (Romans 8:6).
Our choices matter. One who has sown to the flesh may one day look around and see that their lives are full of negative, life-sapping habits, relationships and thought patterns. We can choose to focus on the things that bring death or the things that produce life. What “man” are we going to feed – the old man of the flesh or the new man of the Spirit? What seeds are we going to plant? If we desire a harvest of life, we need to plant seeds that produce it.
In this devotional series, we’ll look at what the abundant life means and some specific seeds we can plant to ensure a bountiful crop of LIFE.
