Day Five – Oneness
As one reads scriptures and understands the story of the Gospel from Genesis to Revelations, he or she will see that it is about being identified as God’s people or family, and His work was to create the way for this to occur. Jesus Himself said that He is the way and the only way to the Father. He is the Gospel. I was accurate with saying that the Gospel began in the Old Testament, for the “Promise” of the Gospel, was the coming of Jesus, and it was prophesied early on. The fulfillment of this “Promise” was fulfilled later when Jesus arrived. But the “Good News” of His purpose and His life was announced hundreds of years before His birth. The point I’m making is that God has always wanted fellowship with His family. It is the theme of the Gospel that by His grace He has made a way to us for this to happen.
Jesus used the vine and the branch to make His point when He said that He wants us to abide in Him and He in us. This is a picture of the closest proximity that we can have with Him. It is almost as if we are growing out of His side. It is a picture of oneness, intimacy, and dependency. When we truly worship our risen Christ, we enter into a oneness with God that words cannot describe. I will not even try. But, we are taken up to His throne room and presence, rather than our attempt to bring Him down to our form, perspective and limitations. This is why I say often that form does not matter. What matters is that our worship is pure, and that we are connected with our Savior in close proximity.
Jesus stretches His disciples to become the men and women who are worthy to carry His name. That is why He disciplines and prunes us. He has a man or woman in mind that can serve Him better by being closer to Him and then absorb His characteristics. His discipline and pruning is designed to produce these kinds of people, by pressing us closer to Him. That is where the life change occurs. At the heart of this intimate oneness with Him that we experience, is a simple but pure worship of Him that sees Him as He is. Then, we can really worship Him in truth. I ask you to now pause and worship your King, for He is listening to you.
