Guide Your Mind-Guard Your Heart-Grace Your Tongue

DAY 8 OF 21

Now that you know what it means to have a renewed mind that thinks the very thoughts of Christ, it is time for a heart transplant of the very best kind! It is time for you to make room for the heart of God in the deepest part of you. God wants to remove your hard, calloused, and worn-out heart and replace it with His perfect heart.

The Hebrew word translated “heart” in this verse is leb, which is defined as “the soul, the seat of life, the seat of senses, emotions, and affections; the seat of will and purpose.” Building upon this definition, we can conclude that the heart is the part of the human makeup that determines how a person will act in any situation in life; the heart is also an emotional thermometer and regulates to what degree we express our feelings concerning people, events, and circumstances.

The problem with your heart is that it doesn’t want to be guarded! Your heart is adamant about expressing itself enthusiastically and often with high drama. Your heart wants to vent and exaggerate and dramatize every situation in life. But the Bible doesn’t say to “express” your heart; it says to “guard” your heart.

The decision to guard your heart with honor and faithfulness will affect every other aspect of your life. The stuff that you allow to enter the recesses of your heart will determine how you act, and will undoubtedly determine your reputation. You must not only monitor what is allowed to enter your heart, but you must also guard what is allowed to exit your heart. Thus, your ability to guard the boundaries of your heart will perpetually determine the boundaries of your very life.

Faithfully guard your heart, and you will become a stable and powerful woman of God who is able to navigate the challenges and difficulties in life without subjecting others to unguarded, unsteady emotions. The legacy that you bequeath will continue for generations beyond the “dash” on your tombstone, and you will be forever known as a woman of virtue and honor. Guard your heart above all else, and you will have the pleasure of living an abundant and joyful life!

Personal Application: Based on what you have read, how would you describe the worth of your heart in God’s eyes?
