Center of Your Love - Kim Walker-Smith
At church, it is very normal for us to talk about God’s love and to say to our brothers and sisters, “God loves you!” We sing songs about it, we read about it in the word, and we even teach it to our children in fun Sunday School lessons. But it is not just something we should say as a ritual because we are Christian. It is something we should say with so much conviction because we have felt the love of God and seen the love of God and heard the love of God. God is love.
That means that love should be alive inside of us and be something that is felt on a consistent basis. If you haven’t had an encounter with God’s love-a moment where you hear and feel the love of God and it becomes so real to you and not just a Christian expression-start there. Ask God to show you how much He loves you. Ask Him what He was thinking when He created you. Let love come alive inside of you!
Once you’ve encountered the love of God, the next step is to learn to remain in His love. When we learn to rest in God’s love and to remain in the center of His love, it doesn’t matter what kind of storm comes our way. We rest secure, trusting that God is for us and not against us. We carry a peace that goes beyond our understanding, knowing that God will see us through every storm and every season.
A good place to start in remaining in God’s love is taking a moment each day to acknowledge His presence there with You, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. Remind yourself of the love you encountered and go and show that love to the people around you! Remaining in God’s love also looks like carrying that love to the world! One of the lyrics to this song is “I’m made for the center of your love”. It’s true! You were created to be in constant communion with the One who made you. Today, take a moment to lean into that Love.
