Declutter Now! 30 Day Devotional

DAY 19 OF 30

Healthy Living

It would be nice if God wrote a ‘Healthy Living Manual’! He wants us to care for our temples, be content in how he created us, and curb or conquer addictive behaviors, but that’s a lot to ask. He’s given us some general guidelines but I don’t remember seeing a recommended food list, exercise regime, or weight loss plan in the bible.

God charges us with the responsibility for our physical wellbeing because he has already equipped us to manage it. There is a plethora of nutrition, diet, and exercise information available, and we are certainly capable of seeking it out. If we don’t have trusted friends to guide and encourage us, there are nutritionists, dieticians, personal trainers, exercise classes, support groups, etc. And of course, we can always rely on God as our main source for inspiration, unconditional love, grace, and provision. The help available at our fingertips is endless. God tells us what to do and why to do it, but he expects us to use the resources available to carry it out.

What motivates you? Being healthy enough to work hard and provide for your family? To keep up with your kids? Take fun vacations? Enjoy hobbies you love? Volunteer in the community? Serve your church? The healthier you are, the more likely you will get to enjoy all of the above, and then some!

Care for your temple, folks; it’s the only one you get here on earth. Declutter it so you are left with all that is good and pleasing to yourself and to God, and then take that goodness and serve him in a mighty way.

What will you declutter? Excuses, irresponsibility, unhealthy eating, laziness, shame, regret, and missed opportunities.
