Overcoming Timidity

DAY 6 OF 7

Timidity in our Family

Do you remember what it felt like to be a child? Your mother and father would drive you to your little league game, soccer match, or Sunday school program. You would try to score a goal, not forget the words to a song, or create something that would make your family proud. When you’re a child you try to do whatever you can to hear those fours words from your parents, “I’m proud of you.” Now that we’re all grown up, we can still sometimes try to impress our family and miss out on God’s plan for our life.

We’re definitely called to honor our parents. However, you don’t need validation from your family to know what God has made for you to do. Sometimes timidity comes into our life because we don’t want to disappoint our family. When God’s plan doesn’t map out with your parents' expectations it can make things difficult, especially if you’re the lone believer in your household.

The difference you make when you follow God’s plan and find God’s purpose for you on Earth is incomparable. No award, scholarship, diploma, degree, career, or championship will ever compare to the impact you make. Your earthly family may be disappointed at first, but we are reminded in Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” If we overcome timidity with faith, our Father will not only reward us, but He will also be pleased. What greater reward is there than to please our Father in Heaven?

Focus: If you live in a Christian family or if you live in a household where you’re the lone Christian, take time to pray over your house today. Pray that the rooms be filled with courage, boldness, transparency, joy, and love! Pray that the Lord will give you the spirit of a lion. Pray that you would be intentional and open with your family about what the Lord is calling you to do. Pray for your family (even if they don’t want you to) and continue to love and care for them the same way Jesus does.

About this Plan

Overcoming Timidity

Has anyone ever called you timid? Timidity is defined as having a lack of courage or confidence. The Lord has recently given me a realization that I was being overcome by timidity and was completely unaware of it. Jesus wasn’t timid with his purpose when he took our sin and shame to the cross. Therefore I refuse to be timid in my faith for a God that courageously chases after me. This devotional will help you reflect on seven different areas of your faith where timidity may be trying to set in. I pray the Lord will give you an awareness of timidity in your life and will guide you as you overcome it.
