Finding An Anchor In Our Anxiety

DAY 5 OF 9

Seeking the Lord

What are we seeking in anxiety? Are we seeking a drink or drugs to take the edge off it? Are we seeking ambition, trying to make us enough money to where we think now we’re safe? Where do we find help? We find help in seeking the Lord. He delivers us from ALL of our fears.

We seek Him in three things:

I. Our Perspective – We want to seek the Lord in our perspective. What is your perspective in this thing called life? Are you tired or sad? Is your perspective, “I’m so tired, I’ve been going for so long, and just tired?” Or is it, “I’m just sad, I see all this, and I’m just sad." Is it maybe depression? Is your perspective fear or  hopelessness? Where are you stepping from? The world is after us in a lot of ways. It is molding our perspective. We are so afraid because we’re taking in so much bad news over and over and over.

Newsrooms moved from information to entertainment. Do you remember the days when TV turned off at 11, or midnight? It would be awesome if that could happen again! It would be great if there wasn’t a 24 hour news show, because you’re always thinking you’re missing something. A news station called a friend of mine, and informed him that so and so made some comment and the producer asked him, “Are you outraged about that comment?” My friend said, “Well I don’t like the comment, but I’m not outraged about it.” The reporter then asked, “Can you be outraged by the morning?” My friend said, “I don’t think I can.” The newsroom went with someone else for their interview. And that is just one of the things that happen behind the curtains. They use hyperboles and try to get everybody excited with statements like “It’s an outrage!” “It is a bombshell statement” or “The ‘Severe Weather Center’ tells us it is 72°F outside.” They speak in hyperboles, and we have to answer the question, was that phrase they used an accurate description of what really happened? Most of the times it's not.

When I was in college, one of my professors told the class, “If you find what people are afraid of, you can make a million dollars. You play to the people’s fear and people will respond with the need for protection.” He was only trying to make a point, because that is exactly what happens with our society all the time. He will deliver you from all your fears. The answer is not turning off the TV, although that may help, but the answer is turning on Jesus.

About this Plan

Finding An Anchor In Our Anxiety

Are you giving your anxieties to Jesus, or are you just trying to stuff them down? Where is the place of unbelief in your life? Where is the hope in your life? Are you just taking the negativity from the news intravenously? On this plan, we’re going to explore the anchors that are available to us when we have to go through anxiety.
