A Moment With God

DAY 42 OF 61

  • A LIFE OF CONFIDENCE

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. This is a promise. But, how can we be sure that this promise will be fulfilled.

“Surely" It is definite. God is not a man to lie. None of the promises that He has kept to the house of Israel have failed. David talks from his experience. It is not for a short time but for all the days of our lives.

Goodness to supply our want. Mercy to cover our defects. This confidence is beyond the grave as well: "forever". People of the world follow after happiness but those who believe in Jesus have happiness following after them.

‘Surely’ indicates that this is a fact that is as indisputable as it is encouraging. Goodness and Mercy are like twin guardian angels which will always be with you.

‘Dwelling in the house of the Lord forever’, a servant does not dwell in the house forever but a son abides forever. There is no greater joy than dwelling in the house of the Lord, a desire that was constantly on David’s mind which he expresses time and time again.

What is our desire?

Goodness are Mercy are like our shadows, constantly waiting to follow us wherever we go.

  • v1 - We shall not want.
  • v4 - We shall fear no evil.
  • v6 - We shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

This is what every person needs: contentment, security and serenity.

All these is given to us by the Good Shepherd.

Sometimes we look back to see if goodness and mercy are following us. Every time we look back, it is a look of doubt. We don't trust the Lord to fulfill this truth. We cannot move forward by looking back. Let us move forward by following the Shepherd. And surely goodness and mercy will follow us.

We must not ask what is following us but we certainly must ask who is following us? Let us experience this Lord of confidence by just yielding ourselves totally into the hands of the good Shepherd. Let us make Psalm 23 our personal Psalm. But before that, let us make the Shepherd of the Psalm our personal Shepherd.

Contentment, security and serenity will be a reality in our lives. Let this Lord of confidence be ours.

Let us ask the question: Whom are we following?
