A Moment With GodНамуна
JOYFUL YIELDING
How much of God have we allowed in our lives? Have we given him total access to our lives? Or are there compartments?
The Psalmist called out to the Lord in his distress. He had no fear of taking his hands off and letting God run his life as he knew the Lord and trusted Him totally. Two people can never hold the steering wheel of a car. One person has to let go.
v1-2 He is my strength, my rock, my fortress, the horn of my salvation and my shield.
v31 God who arms me and makes my way perfect.
How was it possible for David to know so much about God? He allowed God to deal with every aspect of his life. In each working, the character of God was revealed. We get to know the Lord to the extent we allow Him complete control of our lives. If we give God a limited portion of our lives, we will know him in a limited way. David allowed the Lord complete control of his life and in God working in each situation, David knew more and more of the Lord.
- When he sinned, as a forgiving God.
- When he faced trials and troubles, as his deliverer
- When he faced the enemies, God was his protector
- When he was a shepherd boy, he knew the Lord was a greater Shepherd.
- As a King, a God of justice.
How much of God do we know? Is it limited? Is it because we have not yielded to him totally? Let us look at the experience of the Psalmist.
- v15 - Lord who rebukes
- v16 - Lord who redeems
- v20 - Lord who rewards
- v24 - Lord who recompenses
- v31 - Lord who is the Rock
Are we growing in our understanding of the Lord? Do we have that intimate relationship and fellowship with the Lord? We can respond to God's working in one of the following ways:
- We can resist his working for fear that if we allow Him into our lives, when He sets things right, He will pull out that which is close to our heart.
- We can rebel against His working, never allowing Him to work.
- We can resign to His working, where we give in and say, let Him do what He wants to do. There is no joy or willingness when we surrender in a resigned way.
- We can rejoice in His working, which is the right and appropriate way. Celebrate His working in our life with sincerity.
When we joyfully yield to God, when we let go and say: Lord, take complete control. We will see the character of God in operation in every aspect of our life. Let us not surrender compartments but give our all to Him. To give our all to Him, we need to know Him, trust Him, love Him and submit to Him.
He who abandons himself to God will never be abandoned by God.
