A Moment With God

DAY 15 OF 61

THE BLESSEDNESS OF ANSWERED PRAYER

I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

I cried out to You, O Lord; And to the Lord I made supplication: “What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth? Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!” You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.

O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

This Psalm is a song of one who knows what it is to fall from the height to the depths. From having plenty to having little. From a sense of security and autonomy in life to one of vulnerability and awareness of one's need.

It is a psalm of one who knows the pain of losing it all. When life was going well, the Psalmist gave little thought to God. Whatever he might encounter, he was confident he could handle it. Life was good, he was in charge. But it all fell apart. It was to God that he turned: I cry to you for help. You healed me. O Lord my God.

This is a psalm of praise, not one of lament. This psalm reminds us of several truths that are important in our daily walk.

  • None of us is sufficient unto ourselves. We need God and we need one another.
  • God is ever close at hand and answers the prayers of His people when we cry to Him for help.
  • Weeping may linger for the night but joy comes in the morning. It is true only because God sees us through the darkness into the light of dawn, not because it is a natural phenomenon.
  • Gratitude is a proper attitude for those who trust in God, in whatever circumstance we may find ourselves

God is with us to protect, to sustain and deliver us from the darkness of the night into the brightness of day. No matter where we stand, He understands our heart. He is the only one who truly cares and removes all our fears. Thank you Lord for being there and your love we will truly share.

In Jesus is our security.

Your answer is just a prayer away.
