Sin vs Guilt
Whole book reading: Leviticus 4-7
We saw the process involved in an offering yesterday. Today's passage has more offerings. There are a lot of similarities and also differences in some processes. The emphasis in today’s passage is about sin and guilt. Interestingly, these required two different sacrifices.
So, what is sin? Sin is the wrong we do in our lives as an act of disobedience to God. What is guilt? The emotion associated with feeling bad for the sin in our lives. So, is it possible to sin and not feel guilty? Yes. Sinning is bad enough, not feeling guilty about our sin is worse.
Some signs to know we are sinning.
- When we do things against what we believe is the truth.
- For us who believe the Bible is our moral compass, doing things against the Bible is sin.
- The Bible says in Romans: all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So we need to be aware of the sin in our life. Accepting the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross helps us not to feel guilty in Christ.
- We are born in sin. It is passed on from generation to generation from Adam and Eve.
Some signs, we are sinning but don’t feel guilty
- We believe we are always good.
- We justify our actions.
- We are constantly finding fault with others and take no efforts to change ourselves.
Let us ask God to help us deal with the sin and guilt in our lives. Thanks to the ultimate sacrifice on the cross for us, the sin offering in today’s scenario would involve us getting into an attitude of repentance. The guilt offering today will lead us to acts of reconciliation.
Life is about dealing with our sin and guilt through the cross.
