This Time Next Year

DAY 6 OF 7

As a kid, my dad and I used to play checkers. When it was my move, I always took my time debating how my next move would affect my following moves. Sometimes, it would be my move, and I would get caught daydreaming, not even fully present in the game; however, it was still my move. My dad would say, “Paul, it’s your move. It’s your move. It’s your move.”

There are moments in life where God says the same thing to us: “Hello… Paul, it’s YOUR move.” He’s already given us the green light, the okay, the open door, the opportunity, but for whatever reason, we drag our feet, take our time, and still contemplate that next “move” he’s directing us to take.

This time next year, God wants you to look back and say, “I made my move.” When we listen to the counsel—the Holy Spirit—our advocate, counselor, helper, guide, comforter, and friend, He guides where he provides. I’m reminded of what Naomi was to Ruth in the book of Ruth. Naomi was essentially a shadow in the Old Testament of the Holy Spirit to Ruth. What she did in guiding, advising, comforting, and counseling Ruth, God wants to do for you on a daily basis. Just like a giraffe has a higher vantage point than the turtle, the counselor & mentor we trust in has the ability to see further and beyond than our present vision and circumstances. God sees what we need, and where He wants to take us. When we trust Him, His leading, His process, and follow the counsel of Godly wisdom He’s provided in our life, our steps and path are made clear. Our steps are ordered by God, but we have to take the first step in the natural! God is a gentleman—he won’t force us to make our move; it’s about time we started moving towards who He’s called us to be. He will direct our steps as we start moving!
