Pioneer: 5 Days Of Inspiration For Risk-TakersНамуна
There’s a poem by Robert Frost that ends with these famous lines:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Pioneers are always faced with more than one road to travel. Choosing to do something new means you’ve chosen to turn away from the status quo and the roads that have been well traveled by friends, family, and leadership. This can often ruffle the feathers of some and alienate others unable to see God’s hand on the path you’ve chosen to take, leaving you feeling alone and unsure that the decision you’re making is the right one.
It’s easy to look at the potential frustrations that can ensue when taking the road less traveled. But you’re a pioneer. Like the adventurers of the 19th century that chose wilderness over safety, you’ve been called to go deeper.
The moms and dads of the faith that Hebrews mentioned firmly established their path. They made it clear who and what they were seeking. Out of a love for God and a desire to follow Him, they sought him in deserts and prisons, castles and battlefields. They knew that drawing near to God meant taking the road less traveled and doing so wholeheartedly.
You might be called to explore something new artistically, or to reach out to an atheist coworker. Whatever your wilderness, you’ve probably come to a fork in the road, with two choices: step out in faith and seek God’s purpose on unpaved roads, or stay where you are and take the safer route. Godly risk-taking isn’t done out of pride or ignorance. Instead, it’s done out of a love for Jesus, a desire to pursue Him and to know Him more, and a fervent commitment to His plans for you, regardless of whether you can see the end of those plans.
In what areas of your life have you come to a crossroads? Take time today to share with God any fears you may have about taking the road less traveled. Journal a list of times when He’s been faithful to you and the dreams He’s given you. Ask God to reveal more and more of Himself to you as you go deeper and seek His plans, however seemingly scary they may be. If He’s called you to take the wild path, then He knows that you’re fully able to take on that path by His side.
