God's Promise: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5 NKJV)
My Promise: I will pursue humility
Pride is poison. It hampers your relationship with God. It hinders your relationships with others. It harms your relationship with yourself. God resists the proud because the proud resist God. Arrogance stiffens the knee so it will not kneel, hardens the heart so it will not admit to sin. The heart of pride never confesses, never repents, and never asks for forgiveness. Indeed the arrogant never feel the need for forgiveness. Pride is the hidden reef that shipwrecks the soul. Pride not only prevents salvation from God, it prevents reconciliation with people. How many marriages have collapsed beneath the weight of foolish pride? How many apologies have gone unoffered, born to the lack of humility? How many wars have sprouted from the rocky soil of arrogance? Pride comes at a high price. Don’t pay it. Choose instead to stand on the offer of grace.
Unshakable Hope Declaration
We are building our lives on the promises of God. Because his Word is unbreakable, our hope is unshakable. We do not stand on the problems of life or the pain in life. We stand on the great and precious promises of God.
About this Plan
When life shifts toward struggles or pain or disappointment, where do you turn? When uncertainty invades or sorrow seeps in, where do you look for answers? Here’s a suggestion: turn to one of over 7,000 biblical reminders of God’s care, concern, and guardianship. God, both promise-maker and promise-keeper, “has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4 NIV). Through this reading plan, we’ll become well acquainted with many of these promises and learn to rely on them in every turn of life.
