Peace Is a Decision
Imagine how much happier we would all be if we had a constant supply of peace in our hearts. Peace is a decision. It’s not dependent upon the stars lining up in our favor, our ship coming in, or the off chance that the circumstances of are going our way. Today’s scripture promises us that we can have a peace from God that will transcend understanding. In other words, we can have God’s peace even when we are in situations where peace seems impossible. We choose to live above the chaos!
How do we access this supernatural peace from God? Take a close look at the commands from today’s scripture reading.
- Choose to rejoice in Christ, regardless of your circumstances. (verse 4)
- Put on a gentle spirit, rather than a contentious one. (verse 5)
- Be continually mindful of God’s presence and nearness. (verse 5)
- Refuse the futile, joy sapping practice of worry. (verse 6)
- Talk with God honestly about your problems. (verse 6)
- Be vocally thankful for all the blessings in your life. (verse 6)
- Saturate your mind with godly thoughts. (verse 8)
The net result of doing these things is this great promise from God found in verse 7, “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” There’s a promise you can build your life on!
PRAYER
Lord, I need more of your peace in my life, guarding my heart and my mind from fear, worry, strife, and anxiety. Today, I choose your peace. I will rejoice. I will be thankful. I will focus on the good. Thank you for the peace I have in Christ! Amen.
