I Love Room Check
When I first brought my boys home from the hospital, I constantly checked on them during the night. Were they breathing okay? Did they have a fever? Were they crying? I couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to them. I always wanted to be there if they needed me. I even slept on the floor by Clay's crib during those first precious days of his life because I wanted to be close to him and listen to his little baby noises.
As Clay and Caleb grow older, I find myself continuing to check on them several times each night. I still want to make sure they are sleeping okay. If they have been sick, I want to make sure their condition hasn't worsened. Sometimes, I just want to make sure they are not too hot or too cold. Some nights I crawl up next to Clay and Caleb and whisper into their little ears how much I love them and how special they are to me.
The most special part of my late-night room checks is the time I spend in prayer in the room they share. As I look at their peaceful bodies curled up into precious sleeping positions, I get down on my knees between their two beds and I praise God for the gift he has given me. I pray for their salvation, for their protection, for their future spouse, and for their purity. Just like when they were babies, I can't bear the thought of anything happening to them, and I want to take every opportunity to pray for them and lift them up to the Lord. I cherish this special nighttime activity.
As I think about my nighttime routine, I am reminded of how our heavenly Father is always checking in on us. It is amazing to think about how God loves each of us with an even deeper love than the love we have for our children. Wow! Our Father is always looking in on us to make sure we are doing okay. He wants to protect us, guide us, heal us, and just be there for us, no matter what we are going through. What a blessing we have in him.
The next time you look in on your little ones, take a moment to think about how our Lord checks in on you. He loves you so much. He will always be there for you, watching over you and offering you comfort and protection. Never forget how special you are to our Lord!
